Welcome All Scouts & Families!

Once again, on behalf of all of us at Pack 97 – Welcome to the 2008/2009 Scout Year!  We are excited to see all our returning and new scouts and have a great year planned ahead!  We will continue to have the sign up sheets for joining committees and registering for activities as they arise by the entrance/kitchen each week.  You should also find Anthony (Cubmaster), Deborah (Assistant Cubmaster), Brannen (Committee Chair), Karen (Assistant Committee Chair) & Amy (Treasurer) in the same area (or rotating in and out of den meetings) throughout the meetings should you have any questions.


Den/Pack Meeting Information

After our Orientation/Returning Parents meeting on August 26th we have a total of 51 scouts registered with our pack for the new scout year.   Since we are limited to 60 scouts, we have decided not to participate in the roundup at Sun Valley this year.  If you know anyone from Sun Valley interested in joining our pack, we do still have a few slots open; please have them contact Cubmaster Anthony Irwin at cubmaster@pack97scouts.com or encourage them to attend our next meeting.  Anyone who has not returned their BSA Registration forms, please do so at our first den meeting.

 

We will not be meeting this week – our first den meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, September 9 at 7pm at Christ Community Church.  Scouts will receive their books and be assigned to dens at this meeting.  Regular den meetings will follow each Tuesday.  Our first Pack Meeting will be September 30th.  The Pack Registration Fee of $75 is due at/by the Pack meeting for all scouts.  We would also like all scouts to be in full uniform by the first Pack Meeting. 


Carowinds Camping

Since this is still part of the summer program – it is not included in your Registration Fee or Dues for the upcoming year.  Tickets should be ordered/reserved on an individual basis directly through the following website link: www.carowinds.com/boyscouts  

Unfortunately, most of our scouts do not qualify for the “Behind the Scenes” and Ferris Wheel building.  They did tell us there should be a belt loop or other activity available during that time for the tigers, wolves and bears.  The camping area will be set up in the grassy area to the left of the main entrance.  If you attend Friday evening – you will not have to pay for parking.  Those only coming up Saturday will be required to pay parking.  Please let us know if you do register so we can coordinate the pack together.


Book/Supply Collection

As a community service project this year, we would like to have our scouts collect items to donate as a pack to Sun Valley Elementary and Shiloh Schools.   To ensure we collect all the items requested, we have divided the request list by den.  Slips with the items requested for your scouts den will be handed out on Tuesday or you may refer to the following list: 

For the Shiloh Collection:

Tigers:             Please bring At least 1 box of crayons & At least 1 package of scissors

Wolves:                 Please bring At least 1 box of tissues & At least 1 package of baby wipes

Bears:                    Please bring At least 1 bottle of hand sanitizer & At least 1 package of glue sticks

Webelos I:            Please bring At least 1 box of markers or colored pencils & At least 1 box of zip lock bags

Webelos II:           Please bring At least 1 bottle of hand sanitizer & At least 1 package of baby wipes

Collection boxes will be available for collecting items with our first den meeting and we request all be submitted no later than September 23rd.  We will be presenting the Shiloh donation during the first PTA Meeting.

For the Sun Valley Collection:

Each scout should bring 1-2 new or gently used books

Collection boxes will also be available for collecting books with our first den meeting.  We do not yet have a date for presenting these items; though we will let you know as soon it is available.
