The time is here!  I know we’ve been asking for you to set aside your collections for this for weeks, but our final collection date has arrived.  Unfortunately, our basket is still very empty – so please, please, please make sure and bring your Shiloh Collection this Tuesday as follows:

For the Shiloh Collection:

Tigers:             Please bring At least 1 box of crayons & At least 1 package of scissors

Wolves:                 Please bring At least 1 box of tissues & At least 1 package of baby wipes

Bears:                    Please bring At least 1 bottle of hand sanitizer & At least 1 package of glue sticks

Webelos I:            Please bring At least 1 box of markers or colored pencils & At least 1 box of zip lock bags

Webelos II:           Please bring At least 1 bottle of hand sanitizer & At least 1 package of baby wipes

ALSO - We will be presenting the Shiloh donation during the first PTA Meeting at 7pm on Thursday, September 25th.   Please plan to have your scout join us in uniform at 6:45pm outside of the gym entrance to Shiloh to prepare for this presentation.

For the Sun Valley Collection:

Each scout should bring 1-2 new or gently used books.

Collection boxes are available now for donations.  We still do not have a donation date – but will let you know as soon as this is confirmed.

Thank you all for passing on the importance of giving to others to your sons with these important community service projects.

Popcorn Sales Information

Popcorn Sales start Wednesday, October 1 and will go through November 10.  Brannen will be passing out popcorn information at the Pack meeting on the 30th.  We will also be preparing sign up sheets in the next few weeks for our two group sale functions.  On October 11-12th we will be selling popcorn in front of the Monroe Harris Teeter and October 18th-19th we will be selling in front of the Sun Valley Harris Teeter.  All scouts are expected to participate in at least one of the group sales events and need to sign up for a time slot.  If you cannot attend either weekend, please see Anthony Irwin as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you have any popcorn questions, please send them to:  popcorn@pack97scouts.comPlease remember, a lot of the activities we have planned for the year are based on profits from popcorn sales.  It is really important we all “Do our Best”!

Pack Camping Trip & Boat Regatta

Our first Pack Camping Trip & our Boat Regatta is just a few weeks away!  If you did not receive your boat last week, please ask your son’s den leader for it this week.  Rules and regulations are available from here: Rules/Regulations sheet or at the den meeting.  Please keep in mind, even though this is a competitive event which will include the awarding of trophies; our scouts should always remember to simply “Do their Best”!  Enjoy crafting these boats together and make sure the emphasis is on having FUN!   Would you or a sibling like to also create a boat for the “Non-Scout Race”?  We will have extra boats available for purchase in the kitchen area.

For this first camping event, we are planning just an overnighter and keeping it close to home.  At our last Council Meeting, we were informed of a local camping area specifically for Union County Scouts which is right down the road.  We have not utilized this facility before, but hope it will meet our needs for a one night event.  There are bathrooms and running water, though not what we would consider “useable” showers – so plan on roughing it without the showers J

There are also three covered 10'x10' screened cabins in case someone does not have a tent, but I’m not sure of the conditions and they would be first come first serve; so I wouldn’t count on them as my only option.  There is also a small lake/large pond available for fishing during the free time in the afternoon or on Sunday.

The site details/directions are as follows:

The Optimist Club

1974 Skyway Dr

Monroe of the Shell Gas Station.

Essentially, it is at the intersection of 601 and 74.  Go one block to the shell station and turn onto the gravel farm road into the woods, literally right next door to the Shell Station.

Lowe’s Dollar General 300 Race

We now have information available for Scout Night at the Dollar General 300 Race.  This race is scheduled for Friday, October 10th.  In years past, uniformed scouts and chaperones were allowed admittance simply by presenting a copy of a letter regarding the race.  However, they have changed the policy this year.  We must submit total number of scouts and chaperones ahead of time for our entire pack and they will then send us tickets for admission.  Therefore, you must sign up on the form in the kitchen area in order to receive free tickets no later than next week, September 30th.  Additional tickets will be available for purchase in the same area as the group at Gate 31, but you will only receive free tickets if you have signed up with the Pack.

Please continue to have your scout attend in uniform and use Gate 31 located outside Turn 4.  The event schedule for the day is as follows:
