Pinewood Derby Details

After our meeting this week we now have a schedule and additional details to share with you.

Preliminary Schedule

w        We have decided to change the check-in procedure and cars will not be turned into the Pack this year.

w        All cars should still participate in at least one of the Preliminary Weigh-Ins held during the next 2 den meetings (March 3rd & 10th).  At this time, we will be checking cars to ensure they meet the rules as set forth by our Council, which can be found through the following link: http://www.unioncountyscouts.com/Derbyrules(1).doc

w        We will also need all cars to be pre-registered (just not turned in) to allow for bracket creation.

w        Jackie will continue to be taking photos of all scouts, leaders and family/friends that plan to race a car.  If you have not had your photo taken yet, please see Jackie.

Cub Scout Day Camp

For one week each summer our district hosts a Cub Scout Day Camp.  The Camp Director for this year, Mary Stewart, served as both a leader and Committee Member within our pack over the past several years and will be joining us at this week’s den meeting to present the program for this year, provide information and answer any questions you might have.   Please plan to stay for the parent’s portion of the meeting if you and your scout are interested in this wonderful opportunity.

Webelos Woods

If you are a Webelo and plan to attend this event you must sign up either directly with James or with Amy this week.  In order to guarantee your registration, we need to submit the forms and payment this week.

Rays Splash Planet

Saturday, March 7th we will be going to Rays Splash Planet from 11am-1pm.  Scouts will be paid for by the pack. Parents are free and siblings will be $6 each.  Please keep in mind that proper swim attire is required by all participants in the water on the day of our visit.  Driving directions, rules and policies for children and chaperones can be found on line at www.rayssplashplanet.com

Myrtle Beach Trip

It’s also time to start planning for our “big” event of the year and this year we are fortunate enough to be able to enjoy 2 special activities!  We will be Sleeping with the Sharks on Friday, April 24th and then enjoying a special scout event at Medieval Times on Saturday April 25th.  Due to payment deadlines for each activity; registration and payment must be received to us by March 20th.  We should have more information as we get closer, however, in order to start planning your schedule – here’s what we know so far.

Sleeping with the Sharks at Ripley’s Aquarium:  Count sharks instead of sheep!  We will spend the night sleeping in the shark tunnel!  Welcome/Check-in is at 8pm.  There are several activities planned which include a Scavenger Hunt, Classroom Program, Light snack, and designing a T-shirt or pillow case.  Dinner is not included, so please eat prior to checking in.  Saturday morning there will be a light breakfast at 6:30am and the program ends at 7:45am.  Everyone should bring a sleeping bag/pillow and t-shirt or pillow case for crafts.  Scouts are paid for by the pack.  The cost for Parents and siblings is $55/person.  For additional information on the Aquarium, the program and directions, visit the website at http://www.ripleysaquarium.com/sleepwithsharks.php

Medieval Times:  From Sharks, we’ll be traveling back in time!  Doors to Medieval Times will open at 9:45am.  The Scout Recognition will begin at 11am and the Show and Meal will begin at 11:30am.  This program should end at approximately 1:15pm.  Scouts will be paid for by the pack.  The cost for Registered Leaders and siblings/kids under 12 will be $20.97.  The cost for Parents and siblings/kids 13 yrs and over will be $27.46.  For additional information on Medieval Times and directions, please visit their website at  http://www.medievaltimes.com/index.php
