The Weekly Newsletter of Cub Scout Pack 97

Church Playground Equipment

Effectively immediately – there is to be ABSOLUTELY NO ONE allowed in or on the playground equipment at ALL TIMES.  Due to concerns over liability issues should someone become hurt, the age range at which the equipment is approved for and the cost associated with purchasing and maintaining this equipment – it needs to be strictly off limits to all scouts and siblings.  This includes if you arrive early, finish your den meeting early, during den meetings, for siblings, etc.  We have promised the church and daycare that we will no longer access this equipment and if we need to post an adult at each gate entrance to ensure this happens we will.   Please explain to your children that the area within the fence is off limits and we will make announcements at both the pack and den level as well.

Leave No Trace

In addition to enforcing this policy while camping; it needs to be strictly enforced at each and every den meeting.  We have received some feedback that appears some of our dens are not following this within the meeting rooms and the facility.   Please be sure to put everything back where you found it when you arrive and/or clean it up and make it better than when you arrived.  If you meet in a room where there are toys; be sure the toys are put away.  If you find a full trash can in the room you are meeting in; empty the trash when you leave.  If you are doing art projects; be sure to use the broom and/or vacuum when you are done.  Leave no trace you were in the rooms!

Scout Dismissal

No scout should be dismissed from his den meeting unless released directly to a parent.  All den leaders should open the door to their meeting room when they have completed their meeting and parents should make direct contact with the den leader to pick up the scout.  Enforcing this policy should provide for a smoother dismissal and make it easier to monitor the playground equipment.

Bear Den Meeting for December 15th

Shiloh will be having its third grade Christmas Program next Tuesday.  Therefore, the Bear den will not be meeting next week.

Bead Catch Up

I made it through the Bear dens and Webelos I den last week and would like to get everyone else caught up on their bead recognition this week.  Please have your scout wear his bead fob so we can be sure he receives recognition for the events he has participated in.

Christmas/Holiday Party & Pack Meeting

Our Christmas/Holiday Party is this Friday, December 18th at 6:30pm at the Indian Trail VFW.  If you do not know where this is – please see Amy or Anthony for directions.   The pack will be providing Ham, Turkey and Chicken Nuggets.  We are asking all scouts to sign up by den for additional dishes as follows:

Tiger Den 1:       Chips

Tiger Den 2:       Bread/Rolls

Wolf Den:          Potato and/or Pasta Dishes

Bear Den 1:       Salad (Green, Fruit, Ambrosia, etc)

Bear Den 2:       Vegetables

Webelos:          Dessert

There will be 2 sign up sheets available at the den meeting this week; one for overall attendance and one for specific dishes by den.  Please be sure to sign up on both sheets!

If anyone is interested in arriving early to help set up and decorate (or to Chair the decoration committee) please see Amy or plan to arrive to the VFW at 5pm.

Wachovia Volunteer Grants or Grants from your Company

Do you happen to work for Wachovia?  Are you aware of their current program which provides Grants to Non-Profit Organizations you volunteer with?  Any amount of time in excess of 24hrs for the year will equate to a $100 check for the pack.  Anything above 48hrs will be a $200 check.

Any of the leaders, leaders' spouse or any parent that is an employee for this calendar year can set this up.  Basically, if any Wachovian has been on a weekend campout with us...that's money in the bank for the pack.

If more details are needed, James Young has participated in the program for the past 2 years and can be reached at Pack97@CharlotteWebsites.com to answer your questions or walk you through the process.  You have until the end of the year to input, but James recommends you not wait that long as most items are being transitioned to Wells Fargo.

If you don’t work for Wachovia; but work for another company which has a similar Volunteer Grant; please come see us and we can determine if you/we meet the requirements and provide the information necessary to complete the process.

Winter Break

Due to the Winter Break for both schools; we will not have den meetings on December 22nd or 29th.  Even though Shiloh will still actually be in intersession; we will resume den meetings on Tuesday, January 5th

Second Installment of Dues

Please remember that our second installment for dues of $65 is due when we return from break and needs to be paid no later than January 12th.  If you have any questions; please see Amy or Anthony.
