Zoo Trip & Camping in Asheboro

Our big trip for the year is this weekend! Tonight is the last night to both
register and pay. Even if you do not want to camp with us - please plan to join
us for a great day at the Zoo. They will also be celebrating Earth Day so there
will be several special activities planned throughout the zoo on this day.

We will be camping at the Trails End Family Campground which is directly
across the street from the Zoo. I have attached a flyer which includes all the
zoo and campground information.

Fees for this trip are a little bit different than usual. In order to stay at
the zoo and make it easier on everyone for lunch - we will be renting a facility
in the zoo and having lunch catered. Therefore, whether you are camping or not -
the same fees will apply to everyone (except the scout who is paid for by the
pack). The fees listed below include your admission to the zoo and lunch.

Siblings (2-12): $14

Adults (13-61): $23

Adults (62+) : $21

The pack will be covering all the fees incurred for camping registration and
meals at camp. We will not be supplying dinner on Friday night; however, as we
figure most people will plan to pick it up on the way there.

Rocket Build & Launch
Next week during the den meetings (April 20); each den will be building a
rocket! Uniforms are not required this week.
Weather permitting; our following den meeting (April 27th) we plan to launch
them. Due to the space required to ensure a safe launch; it is possible we will
be meeting at a different location and also at 6:30pm instead. We are still a
few weeks out from the launch so will provide you additional details as soon as
we have everything verified.

Indian Trail Clean Up Day

Part of being a scout is participating in community service projects. We
expect all scouts to meet us at 7:30am on April 24th to assist with the Indian
Trail Clean up Day. We will be assigned a street that morning and work as a
team to clean it up. Bags and gloves will be provided. Please sign up on the
sheet in the kitchen area this week or next.

In appreciation, Town Hall Staff volunteers will be serving bagels, juice, and
coffee at the kick-off of this event. Earth Day/ Arbor Day activities will be
held at Town Hall afterwards. There will be many activities, information
concerning the environment, and free give-aways. More information can be found
on their website: indiantrail.org.

Final Belt Loop/Award Submissions
In order to be able to keep our bridging ceremony focused and within a
reasonable time frame; we will only be doing our bridging and arrow of light
ceremonies on May 15th. The last chance to turn in any belt loops or other
awards for the year will be Friday April 30th to be awarded during our Final
Pack Meeting of the year on May 4th. You may still continue to work on belt
loops if you like over the summer and turn those in for the first Pack Meeting
of next year.

Church Project
May 11th during our den meeting we will be doing project(s) at the church to
thank them for allowing us to use their facility throughout our scout year and
for being a wonderful charter organization. We are not sure yet what the
project will be; we will let you know as we get closer if there are any specific
tools or items you might need to bring to assist.

Bridging Ceremony
May 14th-16th is our final camping trip for this scout year and Bridging
Ceremony. We will be at Optimist Park in Monroe. Final details and schedules
are still being worked out. We just wanted to be sure that if you have not
already marked your calendars that you plan to attend this special event. For
those new to scouting; the Bridging Ceremony is where your son will cross from
his current rank to his new rank. It is similar to a graduation ceremony. For
our Webelos II who have earned the Arrow of Light there is also a very special
ceremony planned to recognize their achievement.

Summer Schedule
Our official scout year does end with our Bridging Ceremony. In order to keep
the boys interested in scouting and gear them up to come back for the next scout
year (which begins in late August/early September - depending on when Council
plans our next Roundup) we do try to schedule 1 or 2 fun activities a month over
the summer. If you have any ideas for activities you think would be fun for all
our scouts and families - please email them to me. Once we put together a
complete schedule we will email it out to everyone.

District & Council Derbies

  • District Derby: April 24th @ Iron Horse Motorcycle, 1600 W Roosevelt (Hwy 74), Monroe, NC. Winners from our Pack Derby will automatically qualify to enter the Championship Race at the District Derby.  Registration takes place for the Championship race between 11am-noon with the race starting at approximately 12:30pm. There is also an open race held in the morning which is open to all Cub Scouts. Open Race check-in is between 8-9am with the race beginning at approximately 9:30am. The five winning cars from the open race will advance to the Championship Race. The entrance fee for either race is $3.
  • Council Derby: May 22. The only way to qualify for the Council Derby is by winning the District Derby. It is scheduled for 5/22, place still to be determined. If we have anyone advance from the District Race - we will provide additional details to them.
