The Weekly Newsletter of Cub Scout Pack 97

April 26, 2010

Rocket Launch

Weather permitting; this week April 27th we plan to launch the rockets in the field at the Radiator Specialty Company located at 600 Radiator Road, Indian Trail. To make sure we have enough time and light - this meeting will begin at 6:30pm. Please drive into the parking lot at Radiator Specialty and they will direct you where to go from there.

To get to Radiator Specialty from the church parking lot - you would take a Right on Rogers Road to Wesley Chapel Road. Turn Right onto Wesley Chapel. Then turn Left onto Old Monroe Road. Go about a mile and look for Radiator Road and their large billboard sign and entrance less than a mile on your right.

Bridging/ Optimist Park Details

We have finalized a schedule and in reviewing the remaining pack funds - we have determined that there is enough money in our account that the Pack will be able to cover all fees for this special weekend! We will still have sign up sheets so we can determine what we need to purchase for each activity and meal - though you will find there are no fees on the sheet!

We realize at this time of year that we are also starting to lose some of the boys to various sports activities; which is also why we have scheduled the weekend at Optimist Park in Monroe. We are close enough that we hope if you do have other activities going on that you will sign up for and rotate in and out for as many activities as you can make. Please make sure however that they do not miss out on the Bridging and Arrow of Light Ceremonies. This is a very special night for all the boys and we would really like them to be there and receive the recognition for their hard work!

Our tentative schedule will be as follows:

Friday

7pm Dinner

8:30pm Campfire

Saturday

7:30am Breakfast

9-11am Olympics

11:30am Lunch

1:00pm Raptor Center/Bird Release Program 2:30-4:30pm Fishing Derby 5:00pm Dinner 6:30pm Ceremonies

Sunday

7:30am Breakfast

8:00am Scout's Own Service

Final Belt Loop/Award Submissions

In order to be able to keep our bridging ceremony focused and within a reasonable time frame; we will only be doing our bridging and arrow of light ceremonies on May 15th. The last chance to turn in any belt loops or other awards for the year will be Friday April 30th to be awarded during our Final Pack Meeting of the year on May 4th. You may still continue to work on belt loops if you like over the summer and turn those in for the first Pack Meeting of next year.

Church Projects

May 8th we are requesting assistance from mostly adult and older scout volunteers to assist the church members with the cleanout and reorganization of their shed. This is really where they could use the most "give back" assistance from us - yet we do not necessarily feel it is the most age appropriate task for our younger scouts. We will have a sign up sheet out starting this week - please let us know if you are available to help us out with this.

May 11th during our den meeting we will then be doing some smaller project(s) at the church to thank them for allowing us to use their facility throughout our scout year and for being a wonderful charter organization. We have noticed a few little projects (loose door handles, etc) that can be fixed and the church has encouraged us to assist in any projects we might find. If there is something specific in the area in which your den meets that you have noticed and would like us to propose to the church for your project - please let us know so we can propose the project and obtain any tools and materials necessary.

Summer Schedule

Our official scout year does end with our Bridging Ceremony. In order to keep the boys interested in scouting and gear them up to come back for the next scout year (which begins in late August/early September - depending on when Council plans our next Roundup) we do try to schedule 1 or 2 fun activities a month over the summer. If you have any ideas for activities you think would be fun for all our scouts and families - please email them to me. Once we put together a complete schedule we will email it out to everyone.

Continuing to Respecting Our Facility

Please continue to follow these rules for respecting our facility:

·         There is to be ABSOLUTELY NO ONE allowed in or on the playground equipment at ALL TIMES.

·         The area within the fence is off limits

·         Leave No Trace

·         Scouts are only to be dismissed from den meetings directly to a parent.
